FACULTY POSITIONS/FALL 2007
 
 	Eastern Connecticut State University, the state's public liberal arts university serving approximately 5000 students, offers a wide range of undergraduate majors in the arts and sciences and professional studies, as well as selected graduate programs.  Located in historic Windham County in the heart of eastern Connecticut, the University is midway between New York City and Boston and only a short drive from Hartford, the state capitol.

Department: Communication
Position: Assistant Professor - Advertising and Public Relations
Qualifications: Ph.D. in communication or equivalent required.  ABD near completion considered.
Position Description: The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in advertising and public relations and courses in the organizational management graduate program.  Additional responsibilities include advising students, participating in professional organizations related to the field, and engaging in scholarly work and service.

Position: Assistant/Associate Professor - Research and Assessment
Qualifications:  Earned doctorate in education or related area with a strong background in educational measurement/statistical analyses and assessment in college teaching as well as K-12 teaching.  ABD near completion considered.  
Position Description: General responsibilities for the successful candidate will include generation, collection, management, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of qualitative as well as quantitative data for program support, assessment, program effectiveness, decision making, and NCATE re-accreditation using collaborative methodologies.  Additional responsibilities include teaching graduate level seminars in research and assessment in education and educational foundation courses within the teacher certification programs; advising students; and engaging in scholarly work and service.

Position: Open Rank - Reading/Language Arts 
Qualifications: Earned doctorate in reading/language arts or a related field.  ABD near completion considered.  Three years of elementary, middle, or secondary school teaching experience and a constructivist view of literacy required.  Preference will be given to candidates who have an interest and experience with both the assessment and instruction of struggling readers; in organizing and overseeing the reading practicum; and in teaching other reading/language arts methods courses.  
Position Description:  Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate pre-service students and graduate students in both a reading/language arts master's program focused on preparing reading specialists and in courses that support the initial credentialing program.  Additional responsibilities include advising students, integrating educational technology in courses, and engaging in scholarly work and service.

Position: Assistant Professor - Physical Education Elementary and Secondary School Pedagogy 
Qualifications: Earned doctorate in physical education or related field required.  ABD near completion considered.  Experience and expertise in physical education: pedagogy and curriculum development.
Position Description: The successful candidate will teach courses in some of the following areas: physical education pedagogy and curriculum development, adapted physical education, motor development, physical activity assessment, foundations of health-related fitness, and a variety of lifetime sports/leisure activities.  Public school teaching experience strongly desired.  Candidate is expected to advise students and engage in scholarly work and service.

Department: Health and Physical Education
Position: Assistant Professor - Sport and Leisure Management: Recreation and Health/Fitness
(Two Positions)
Qualifications: Earned doctorate in physical education/sport and leisure management/recreation or related area required.  ABD near completion considered.  Expertise in one or more of the following areas: public sector recreation, recreation/leisure services, and/or health and fitness.  Familiarity with concepts and principles in the areas of health fitness/sport management/recreation.
Position Description: The successful candidate will teach courses in the undergraduate sport and leisure management program.  Candidate will also teach a variety of lifetime sport/leisure activities.  Candidate is expected to advise students and engage in scholarly work and service.
